The former Museum für Völkerkunde Wien (Museum of ethnology Vienna) was renamed Weltmuseum in 2013. The term ethnology is generally outdated. It is associated with the view of other peoples and cultures from our European perspective. In the new Weltmuseum, all cultures of the world are to be presented on an equal footing. For example, also in Munich, the Museum of Ethnology was renamed “Museum 5 Continents Munich“.

Despite the high prices, the world museum is worth a visit from our point of view. A great, large and interesting exhibition.

The Weltmuseum Wien is one of the very big ethnological museums in Europe. The collection consists of about 250,000 objects plus almost 300,000 old photos and writings. Of course, not all of them are exhibited in the Weltmuseum, but the visitor gets to see a lot. The exhibition area is large, one can easily spend a whole day in the Ethnological Museum.

Today the castle is the seat of the Federal President. That this does not need so many rooms, parts of the huge Hofburg today have another function So a part is the World Museum, also the famous Spanish Riding School Vienna is in the Hofburg.
